This year we will be posting our Member Spotlight each month to recognize exemplary members of the CalALTs community. This month's Member Spotlight is Ryan Rosen from PAAMCO Prisma! Originally from Scottsdale, AZ, Rosen moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA and has not left Southern California since! As the Member Spotlight, we had a few questions for Ryan...

Current Endeavors and Background

What is your current role at PAAMCO Prisma?

I’m an Associate Director in the Portfolio Management department at PAAMCO Prisma. I joined PAAMCO Prisma five and a half years ago.

What is your current focus relative to alternative investments?

Currently I am focused on our hedge fund seeding business, PAAMCO Launchpad, where I help source, conduct investment and business due diligence, and ultimately fund early stage hedge fund managers. Additionally, I am helping to develop new solutions that help bridge the gap between GPs looking for capital to deploy into interesting investment ideas and LPs looking to allocate to investments that often fall through the cracks of traditional asset class bucketing. I also work on portfolio construction for several our custom client account mandates.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about identifying hedge fund managers and strategies that are primed for growth and success, and I’m passionate about helping our clients express their investment needs in interesting and efficient ways.

What do you find most rewarding about your career?

I always think about our client base – pensioners who have worked hard and are counting on us to help provide for them and their families in retirement. Additionally, I find it very rewarding to work with smart and driven people who make it an interesting environment to work in every day.

CalALTs Leadership

What is your current role within the chapter?

I serve as a director on the CalALTs Board of Directors

When did you join CalALTs?

I joined the board in May of 2019. I got more involved through a former board member and current colleague. Then I attended ALTSLA and the CalALTs Table Talks and associated events in Las Vegas and saw the breadth and scope of the organization.

What do you value most about our Organization?

CalALTs has really worked to create a value-added network of professionals across so many aspects of the alternatives industry and has strived to put on events that will educate and benefit its members. The group has strong senior leadership who devote their time and efforts to making sure that the group does not just survive but grows and thrives.

Advice for Young Professionals

What advice do you have for young people getting started in the business of alternative investments?

Begin learning and networking as soon as possible. Stay current on markets and form your own investment opinions that you can discuss with others. If you can, start investing personally even for small amounts. Having some skin in the game makes you focus on those investments much more acutely.

Fun Fact To Share

Do you have anything personal or a fun fact to share with us?

I met my wife Lindsay in the dorms at UCLA. We’ve been married for 5.5 years now. We have an amazing son, Connor, who is 5 months old. I’m a big sports fan – UCLA, AZ Cardinals and Suns, Cleveland Indians. I enjoy collecting (and consuming) wines and playing golf. But my newest hobby is trying to make my son laugh!
